Fire in a public place or accommodation is a serious accident. Toxic and caustic smoke endanger the vital functions of people present in the place where the fire breaks out, from the first minutes.
The primary rules in case of fire :
- Alert the emergency services and provide all necessary information
- Alert the occupants of the house or building
- Evacuate and meet at the agreed assembly point
- Ensure that nobody is missing and that the premises have been completely evacuated.
Some rules to follow in case of fire:
- Never open a door before checking if it is hot
- Touch the door before trying to open it. If it is hot, take an alternative exit where possible. A warm door could mean there is fire on the other side, and opening it may cause a blast.
- Crawl beneath the smoke and remain close to the floor until a safe place if the room is full of smoke.
- If somebody’s hair or clothes take fire, the flames should be put out with a towel, blanket or other thick item OR stop and roll on the floor to put out the flames.
If a fire breaks out at home: REMAIN CALM! Sound the alarm and let everybody leave. Do not lose any time by dressing children, roll them in a blanket if it is cold. Dial 112 from a safe place, without waiting.
Never return to a building when it is on fire.
